First, my “unscheduled trip” was a success and everything is fine. Second, my “emergency unsupervised overnight print” came out great. I also have filament spools coming from two suppliers using two different shipping methods. And the printer is running right now.
However, I just haven’t had time to carefully plan all my production between now and a USPS shipping “drop dead date” for getting stuff into your hands by Christmas. I’m 100% sure I can fulfill everyone who has already made a “by Christmas” order. I’m 90% sure I can take more orders and get them out by Christmas too but I don’t know how many.
Starting now, all new orders “by Christmas” will be first come first served.
Everybody who checks the box “I don’t need this for Christmas” will get their order right quick too, but they deserve a halo for letting the pressure off. If you ordered like that previously or in the future… take a deep breath of satisfaction for being so awesome.
For filament supply reasons my overnight print was a rig in translucent blue. By the time you are stuffing a turkey in the oven tomorrow I’ll have four ready to go. I haven’t had time to add blue to the form but I’ll do so tomorrow. I’ll post a photo then too. (I’ve been driving all day and I’m bushed right now.)
Have a blessed Thanksgiving. I will! I dodged a health scare earlier in the year, Mrs. Curmudgeon is happy to see me hassling suppliers and messing with spreadsheets like my old self, and I’ll have a great time flogging my 3d printer like a rented mule all holiday season! What more could a Curmudgeon want?
You are doing a great job Sir. I don’t have a miter saw, would 1 these help if I only have a ciculer saw?
Yes. All my jig does is help you trace a few angles with a pencil. Once you’ve got the line there’s many ways to cut along it.
I based the idea on this video. https://youtu.be/YqvnUgcQEcI and if you watch the video he shows how to cut with a circular saw. That’s just what you’re asking. Be careful and watch his approach. I’m not a fan of complex cuts with a circular saw but it’s totally do-able. I happen to use a bandsaw on the legs. So a bandsaw works ok too. In fact, it wouldn’t be too crazy to cut everything with a hand saw. I’m too lazy for that but I think it would be do-able by hand.
You messed up that song. Instead, it goes:
“I’ve been drivin’ all night…”
Me and the printer got a wave in the air!!!!!!
Oh, thanks. Now I have the rhythm of the song and mangled lyrics running in my head :-). I’m glad things worked out and no one will die for lack of a quite nifty sawhorse jig before Xmas. Pine for it, maybe, but not suffer. Relax.
What I’m thankful for: being able to drive on a snow-free Interstate in order to fill in at work on Thanksgiving; Interstate Rest Areas; being ABLE to work; being at work on Thanksgiving with a client who really needed/appreciated it; a pre-cooked Thanksgiving meal at work; holiday pay; losing my grumpy attitude the more I thought about it; an additional Rest Area on the drive back (took a nap); getting back just before Snowmageddon hit.
I managed to order some filament and thus I relaxed (sorta’).
As for thankful, I should have mentioned it specifically but I’m filled with gratitude just being on the correct side of the dirt. My health scare earlier this year was never as dire as the suffering of so many people, but at the time I didn’t know where it was going. I was pondering the possibility of a dirt nap in my immediate horizon. Yet here I am; mostly OK and steadily improving. I’m happily burning firewood I cut myself and grazing on Thanksgiving leftovers. How cool is that? I’m also thankful I ditched a bad work environment. Avoiding work stress didn’t cause better health all on its own but it sure as hell didn’t hurt. Health and less stress is enough good fortune for any year! I piss and moan that I couldn’t go camping and whatnot but it’s better to have time to deal with that in due time than not.
