Gen-X, the oft hated, always ignored, rounding error of a lost generation, had Magnum PI. That was our window on the mysterious world of tropical islands and excellent moustaches.
Boomers, don’t think I forgot you. Y’all had Hawaii Five-O. It was a little earlier, starting in 1968, and played mostly after my bedtime. (How odd to think I was once young enough to have a mandatory “bedtime”.) Whenever I watched the show it bored me… but I think the theme is better than even Magnum’s.
Book ’em, Danno!
Thanks a lot. I’ve had the themes to Hawaii 5-0 and Magnum running through my head all yesterday and today.
On the other hand, they’re a lot better than most other earworms I get….
Another great opening theme song was the guitar riffs in Police Story!
You do know that Magnum P.I. is really a Sequel to 5-0?
Some production company, some of the same filming crew, and some reused locations and sets.
There is a whole internet rabbit hole about the connections between the two shows.
As a young curmudgeon Hawaii Five O was before my bedtime so it was not part of my memories. Magnum’s Ferrari was right at the proper time to become part my psyche’s pre-planted bullshit.
Incidentally, I swear I remembered Magnum with a Beretta but someone mentioned he was a 1911 guy and it checks out by Google. By gosh my memory must be incorrect. I was so certain. I was so wrong.
Now someone is going to tell me the Duke boys weren’t driving a Dodge Charger and I’ll go into a spiral of confusion.
Wrong about the Beretta? Or the Mandela Effect. I suspect you may be hard wired to reject such woo woo BS, but I grew up on classic sci fi in the ’60’s and ’70’s, so Cern screwing up some time lines are right there in my “possibilities” folder.
How many impossible things have they brought out in the last 60+ years? Thousands?
My wife’s uncle Kenny, was college roommates with “Danno”. They stayed in contact for many years after. Does this fall into “6 degrees” of something?
