WYBDR: A Picture Is Worth 1000 Words

I used most of my water but the only thing better than one cup of coffee is two.

What a great morning view.

Whoops, looks like I’m lost again.

Here’s the road to backtrack.

But look, I found a shortcut!

The shortcut evaporated.

Wisely chickening out, backtracking from my “shortcut”, and backtracking to Oil Springs Road yielded me this road sign.

Taking a break amid the cows.

Heading into the Natural Gas plant.

It turns out much of a Natural Gas plant (or maybe “field”?) is just scatteredpipes sticking out of the ground.

This is called Rainbow Cliffs, it was underwhelming.

Lander was a miracle! Free camping, with shade and grass!

A happy hippy crowd.

With dogs!

And kids to pet the dogs.

And food trucks! And beer trucks!

What more could a tired desert wanderer want?

Lander is where? Rainbow Cliffs… lol…like Jacob’s lake at Yellowstone….drove hard to get there….mud puddle!

Lander is roughly in the middle of Wyoming. Or, as I got there, three hard day’s backcountry ride from the Montana line.

Nirvana. I’ll have a cold beer and a burrito! Yessssss!

Ya know, there are a few intervals between the TW200 and a mega power ADV with weight to match. Like a 300cc honda or kawi dual sport. Even a DR 650- 100 lbs more than your bike, but 100 less than the average ADV bike.

Now that I’ve got a little more experience I think about 300-400cc is probably a sweet spot. I definitely lean more to dirt than pavement though. The TW is really designed for the most unforgiving terrain at the expense of a worn out rider.

Knocking out your bucket list buddy?

Fun is the telling of the tale later at home with a stiff iced drink in hand.

At least that’s how it is when my homemade sharpie is caught out in a squall line and even where is the shore is a SWAG (sweet wild assed guess).

At least you found the Beer Tent buddy!

    • AdaptiveCurmudgeon says:

Yep half the fun is telling the tale. And unlike politicians my tales really happened. 🙂

It’s cool you’ve got a homemade sharpie! One sad thing is I didn’t get to take my homemade boat out sailing this year (or last!). I had to choose between motorcycles and sailboats. Oh well, it looks like it has ridden out the elements pretty well so next year is another chance to sail. Now that I think about it, I’m a lucky guy that I have the choice between the two.

A well earned rest stop. Very similar to the Appalachan thru-hikers who tramp through the woods for days to come across ‘civilization’ and all the comfort we take for granted when living here. Soft drinks and beer was made as a reward for time spent like that. Find a restful quiet spot, drink down that cold liquid and reflect on how Good Life can be.
