“Go with the decision that will make for a good story. “
I found a list of 45 fatherly words of wisdom at RECCE ROOM and that one is my favorite. It ties into something I’ve personally said in many dire and unpleasant moments:
“This is going to be a really funny story… later.”
Glad to know I’m not the only one.
There are a few other classics in the list:
“No matter their job or status, everyone deserves your respect.”
“A man does what needs to be done without complaining.”
“Never stop learning.”
“If you’re the smartest person in the room, you’re in the wrong room.”
“Luck favors the prepared.”
And the most undeniably true of all:
“Buy a plunger before you need a plunger.”
Words to live by.
*ReCce. Wouldnt let you drive away with your gas cap hanging either amigo.
As in typo in your link amigo… you have reece, should be recce…
Thanks. I’ll fix it.
My personal mantra ” It’s never a good thing when your name is being chanted in a bar”.
Roger
Holy shit! That’s brilliant. Been there, done that, and you’re right… it was not a good thing.
“You can tell the size of a man by the size of things that bother him.” True. I would add thus:
You can tell how well your life is by how pithy are your complaints. The men on Omaha Beach, the men at Valley Forge, everybody in Stalingrad, not a one of them worried about spots on their drinking glasses or if their deodorant was wearing out. If your biggest complaint is only getting 80mbps of internet speed when your contract clearly states 100mbps, you ought to give thanks that you’ve so little adversity in your life.
“When you walk, look straight ahead, not at your feet. ” Obviously this did not come from a rancher. Or a dog owner.
Why buy a plunger if you’ve got some M80s?

Unless, of course, your drain system is not properly constructed…
Stay away from my plumbing. I have the ultimate toilet and will brook no M80s!
If you’re trying to make do with a Gorelet, then indeed you cannot tolerate even the smallest of firecrackers. I’m sorry to hear that you have fallen so far.

Those of us with REAL toilets, on the other hand, have no need for plungers. Never.
“No matter their job or status, everyone deserves your respect.”
Um, no.
You have to earn my respect. If I don’t know you, you’ll get my courtesy until I do know you. After that, you get what you earn.
OTOH, respect is earned merely by acting like a reasonable human being – it’s not a terribly high bar. Unfortunately, far too many people fail to hurdle it.
Kurt
Unfortunately, many of those who fail to earn respect are the first to DEMAND it. Because, after all, they are speshul snowflakes…
“No matter their job or status, everyone deserves your respect.”. I think this is a bit misleading. I would say ” No one should be treated with dis-respect because of their job or status”.
Roger
Well put.
