Homesteading is a mysteriously complex activity; beset with obscure and improbably strange challenges. There comes a time when your hands are half frozen and you’ve used your last match and you think to yourself that any activity involving a propane torch is something you’d rather not face. It’s about that time that you peer down a the ladder’s feet, which are sliding around on a sheet of ice…
…and you think, for just a minute, that you should have taken up bowling as a hobby instead.
ooohhhhh yeeaaah… 7 months pregnant, badly ill, in the dam, up to my neck in water lilies and sucking mud trying to fix a ballcock on the end of a pipe to water the bloody trees. SCREW THIS FOR A JOKE! Why didn’t I stay in my nice suburban home? (STOP LAUGHING! A ballcock is…oh never mind…)
The crazy thing is I moved here for a slower pace of life…I certainly did NOT find it!
Yeah, but I don’t think bowling can provide a security perimeter and feed a family in a power outage. Keep up the good work, AC
EEEK!
Preach it, brother. Winter is a time for regretting one’s earlier decisions.
Anybody who thinks you can raise chickens for less than the chicken factory, or raise cattle for less than the feedlot, probably hasn’t considered their time in the bargain. And sitting on 18 acres of which 6 are lawn requires a significant investment in lawn mowers and time that the average suburbanite will never know.
Is it worth all that to step outside your home and not see another soul?
To me it is.
