I was up late fiddling with my 3d printer and 3d models to drive it. I was having fun. I was “in the zone”.
For background noise, I played HFY fiction on YouTube. For those of you who don’t know, HFY stands for “Humanity, Fuck Yeah!” It’s a genera of science fiction. On YouTube it has been beaten to death by AI. (If that’s your thing, don’t take my cynicism personally, some is probably excellent. The junk I played as background noise wasn’t a thoughtful exploration of the genera.) Probably written by AI, the stories follow repetitive plot points as befits a machine’s storytelling.
Below, I recreate a basic plot:
“I’m Commander Zxnod, reptilian commander in a fearsome space armada. I was tasked by the supreme galactic hegemony to test the recently discovered and primitive weaklings which call themselves humans. I think a being without scales or poison will be no use to the military. However, for diplomatic purpose I must perform the test. Human volunteers, Chad Thundercock, Awesome MacSmith, and Busty Johnes transfer to the Deathworld training grounds and begin a three day immersion in harsh conditions. While they do this I monologue about the apex predators / dragons / space monsters which will surely kick their ass. Three days later I’m shocked to discover they’re not only alive but thriving. They’ve trained a nine foot tall wolf to play fetch! They captured a giant space constrictor, named it “Mikey”, are keeping it as a pet, discovered its sentience, and have started training it to draw letters on a chalkboard. They’re barbequing a freshly killed Tyrannosaurus Rex. They offered me a piece and I was grossed out. Space corporate management are all herbivorous species and they’ve collectively shit themselves in fear at the outlandishly primitives. The humans don’t notice or don’t care. They did all their feats with nothing but a Swiss Army Knife, two rocks, and a pointed stick. Humans are some scary shit! The end.”
Imagine that, but read in an AI generated voice.
Hm… I think I’ll stop here. Dumping on HFY was fun but the next post will move on to the most exciting topic ever; bolt thread geometry!
